Physical Activity
In Skeoughvosteen NS, we are very lucky to have access to large and varied yard options including wide grass areas,a basketball court, an enclosed infant all-weather yard, marked concrete yards for wetter days and a GAA/Soccer pitch. Along with these outside facilities, we have an outdoor classroom and garden which gets lots of use during the summer months. Our Active Schools Walkway has been in place since 2019 and is another outdoor resource well utilised by both pupils and staff alike.
Each teacher in the schoolhas a daily timetabled morning movement break outside. This offers pupils movement, fresh air and a break from the busy classroom routine. This has proved to be a vital part in supporting all children's sensory and educational needs.
In October 2025, led by the Active Schools Committee, we participated in the Skip Around the World Challenge. The children looked forward to practicing their skipping skills daily and the teachers enjoyed watching each pupil progress during this three week initiative.
From January 19th - February 13th, each class in the school participated in the three week challenge of Active Breaks. Everyday, we committed to a 10minute daily active break which included walking, running, dancing and basically any kind of exercise. Our classes loved this initiative as it provided fresh air and movement outside the classroom!
